Spotify uses Musixmatch to license and sync lyrics on the platform. This is done on a country basis. In Japan, licensing and syncing song lyrics are handled by PetitLyrics instead.
As a Spotify artist, you can add or change lyrics to your song when you are verified on Musixmatch. Publishers can also join the lyrics platform through Musixmatch for Publishers.
Steps to Adding Lyrics to Spotify Using Musixmatch
Remember that you can only add lyrics to songs already on Spotify. This is done through digital music distributors.
- Get verified as an artist on Musixmatch
- Add your lyrics within Musixmatch
- Format the text according to guidelines on the platform
- Download the Musixmatch mobile app
- Login and connect it to Spotify
- Search for the song you want to sync
- Click PLAY and then click SYNC LYRICS
- Scroll through the lines of the lyrics in time with the music playing
You teach Musixmatch to sync the words to the song with this action. When you finish, the lyrics will become available to streaming services.
Although the process takes a bit of time, it is needful. Artists use it to make their songs popular in countries that speak a different language from them.
